Plus 7 students from the AjA Project had photos to display as well.

It was such a great feeling after the show closed knowing that it had been a huge success. My girlfriend Holly and I were laying in bed a few nights before the event and I think an overwhelming fear came over the both of us. What had we gotten ourselves into? Having never hosted a gallery exhibit the unknown factor was in full force. Would people show up? Would the displays work correctly? Photos were still in the processing stage. How were they going to turn out since they were obviously the most important part of the show. Basically we were freaking out but not really saying anything.

So our fears seem to fade away by 7:30 on that Saturday night. Over 50 people had arrived in the first 30 minutes. Everything was coming together. Months and months of hard work was now rearing its handsome face. The space looked great. People seemed intrigued. A really great vibe was taking place.
Here is a list of my 5 favorite watering holes.

5: Island Beachcomber Hotel bar - St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands Probably my favorite place to drink when starting or finishing a vacation in the Virgin Islands. Located next to the airport and having a great water view, this open air bar even offers free chunks of lettuce to feed the iguanas roaming the property.
Nothing fancy but why should it be?

4: La Coralina - Bocas Del Toro, Panama Sadly this wonderful place shut its doors last year but the great memories still linger. Bocas Del Toro is sort of a dingy little island off the coast of Panama but once you reached La Coralina you never wanted to leave. Awesome views looking over the water and one of the strongest rum punch drinks ever made. It was almost impossible to walk away since stumbling was usually the only option. Once back at your room and it was off to sleep with the sound of the surf pounding in the distance.

3: Pacific Shores - San Diego, California This place is the recipe for a great dive bar located in the hippie/junkie/weirdo neighborhood of Ocean Beach. Dark and serving cheap drinks by San Diego's high price standards. Weird glowing murals adorn the walls, a juke box filled with drunken hits and a pool table tucked away in the storage room.

2: Shipwreck Landing - St. John, US Virgin Islands A must do if you are ever in St. John. Located on the quiet side of the island...I have been going to this place since the late 80's. Nothing ever changes and that is a good thing. Views looking out to Coral Bay and blackened shrimp scampi appetizers to go along with some really good rum drinks. This place would be #1 on the list but the last time I was there was before owning the Hipstamatic.

1: Tiki Ti Room - Los Angeles, California This place ranked #1 because it is not only a great cocktail lounge but also a virtual Tiki museum. Located in the ultra hipster neighborhood of Silverlake, this small bar has a capacity of about 30 patrons and serves up some of the best and most potent rum concoctions known to mankind. Many famous Hollywood stars have been known to slip in for one of the many awesome drinks on the menu including the Chief Lapu Lapu, the Pain Killer or maybe even the Ooga Booga. A must stop if you are ever in the Hollywood area. (See the drunken Hipstamatic shot pictured above)

If you are looking for a great beer experience then you might look elsewhere. These places are all about the rum which is basically the only type of alcohol I enjoy.Hipstamatic Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09941023889013198004noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4328190402259363153.post-35211772543208223172012-10-24T08:48:00.000-07:002012-10-24T08:48:49.123-07:00Exploring life's journey: Part 2

Home Sweet New Home....my fascination with the work of Ralph Eugene Meatyard continues. Meatyard died of cancer at the young age of 47. An amazing photographer who probably wasn't fully understood at the time of his death. Having myself turned 47 last week it seems to bring up a lot questions and thoughts. Life gets shorter each year. Is there a final goal? What is fulfilling? What is not? How did I get here? Where am I going?
This was shot last month in Joshua Tree. Hopefully it would have made Meatyard smile.Hipstamatic Worldhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09941023889013198004noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4328190402259363153.post-41755957373701657812012-10-09T14:57:00.001-07:002012-10-09T14:58:46.092-07:00Moving AheadSo the transition from San Diego to Yucca Valley is moving right along. New visions, odd people and new adventures have been a much needed rejuvenation tool. The blog lags from time to time as my life progresses. Now it is time to fill in the missing blanks. This is our new view. This is what we see everyday.
But I kept thinking about what a vintage clothing store owner in Sebastapol had told me the day before. He said to make sure and stop at the beach right across from the entrance to Hearst Castle. He mentioned the glowing sand and the old wooden pier.
So sure enough as we approached San Simeon we saw the road leading to the water. Fulfilling our curiosity we made the turn.
I decided to tag along for a trip to Northern California with my girlfriend who was shooting a wedding session in Sebastapol, California. We decided to take our dogs with us for the journey.
My dog Hobbes is almost 13 now and has never really had the "dog vacation" experience. Day 3of the trip had to be a dream day for a dog. I know it was for me. Visits to 2 amazing beaches with a break in Big Sur sandwiched in between.
I had to laugh at this pic. The resort had placed chairs in the river for people to have a chance to enjoy a few drinks with their feet in the water.
Since Hobbes doesn't like water, I had to carry him out and onto the seat. Seen here waiting for a cocktail.
No auto partsRecently I was visiting my dad up north and decided to make a few auto part junkyard stops while I was there. I was hoping to find a missing part to my girlfriend's car. The town I grew up is a bit rough around the edges. Dollar stores, pot shops, cigarette stores, way too may tattoo parlors and a street filled with junkyards.

Pulling up to U Pick U Save, I was ready to pick. The only problem was is that I was wearing flip flops aka: thongs or sandals. I was wondering if that was going to be a problem. Sure enough...it was a problem. The guy at the entrance told me that open toed shoes or sandals couldn't come in due to safety reasons. But I was in luck he told me. They had a rental pair of shoes for only $2.00. Hooray!

So I began to do the math: drive home and get some shoes and waste $10.00 in gas, or just rent the junkyard shared rental shoes. Being a cheap guy, I made the decision to risk any potential fungus or athletes foot.
Amazingly the shoes were an 11. I was in luck because I too am an 11. So it was on with the shoes (no socks of course) and into a football field size of junked vehicles.

I never found what I was looking for, but I also didn't seem to catch any foot disease. All said and done it was $2 well spent for some interesting photo opportunities.
Today I ran across one of these "I'm not sure ofs". I poked and I prodded and I still walked away unsure.
Last month was filled with a lot of changes so the blog was cold.

I saw this hot sauce a few days ago and wondered if drinking Satan's Blood was actually a very good idea.
Like we are supoosed to know how hot 800,000 s.u. Chile Extract really is. For the sake of my bowel, I think I will stick with the mild.
Nice to meet you.So there is a new Hipstamatic lens in town. It's called the James M and it has teamed up with its partner Rock BW-11 a black and white film. Hearing about the new combo and being stuck at work I wanted to take it for a test run. So I ran to the food truck and took this shot. It was a tester and hopefully a sign of good things to come.
This is a town that has transformed itself over and over again. The Rat Pack, the high rollers, a family destination, sin city, what happens in Vegas.....
Lately it looks like the brakes have been applied. Uncompleted mega structures have been left unfinished. For sale signs seem to pop up on every residential street. Moving vans are leaving at a much higher pace than arriving. Casinos look like ghost towns at 3AM.

But this is Vegas. A place where you can live your dreams, spend your hard earned cash and pretend you are somebody much more important than you really are.
Mold is already forming around the edges. The skin is starting to grow soft and mushy. The grins are starting to take on the form of agony. Each year the birth of a new Halloween pumpkin begins, as we say goodbye to last year's design. Goodbye...you two served me well.
I can sense the many positives of this lens but I think I have yet to be in the right situation to fully take advantage of it. I like how the orange coloring seems to pop.
The older we get the faster time seems to fly by. Summers become Fall and you begin to notice all the holiday decorations starting to hit the store shelves. I just realized I haven't even exchanged a shirt that is too small which was a gift from last Christmas.
